Storage Tips
In order to help make your storage process as easy as possible, we have developed the following guidelines. Please keep these tips and pointers in mind while packing.
Helpful hints for packing your storage unit
- Attempt to distribute the weight evenly in the container - do not place all heavy items on one side.
- Protect your items with cloth or paper pads, bubble wrap or moving blankets.
- Place heavy items on the bottom and stack light items on the top.
- Use ropes or straps to secure your goods and prevent damage.
- Pack all items as tight as possible and wrapped in blankets to prevent shifting and damage.
- When the container door is open, secure it to avoid unexpected closures.
- Secure the container when unattended with a quality padlock.
- Fill boxes completely - this reduces shifting and helps prevent the box from crushing.
- To make items you access frequently easy to find, store them near the front of the storage unit.
- Make an inventory list of what items are in your Door to Stor storage unit.
- Mark boxes with a list of their contents. This will make items easier to find later.
Do NOT do the following
- Do NOT let children play in, on, or around the container.
- Do NOT place flammable or hazardous materials inside or near the container.
- Do NOT remove the weatherproof cover from the storage unit.
- Do NOT load more then 2,000 lbs. in one, Door to Stor storage unit.
Do NOT pack the following
Aerosol cans, alcoholic beverages, synthetic clothing, combustible metal products, plastic upholstered furniture, wood or metal furniture with plastic covering and/or padding, glycol, linoleum products, oil-based paints, pharmaceuticals, foamed-back rugs, asphalt shingles, synthetic thread or yarn, flammable solids, lacquers, lubricating or hydraulic fluid, foamed rubber or foamed plastic, pillows, rolled paper, rubber tires, vegetable oil and butter in plastic containers, weapons or ammunition, or any other substance or material whose storage or use is regulated or prohibited by federal, provincial or local law, regulation, rule or ordinance.
Additional storage unit tips
| Furniture Tables and Chairs: |

Disassemble if possible to save space
Cover with cloth or paper pad to protect from damage.
Most couches can be stood on end to make the best use of space - use pads to protect armrests.
Place mattresses and box springs in a protective bag. |

| Bicycles and Toys: |
| |
Clean and lightly wipe with oil for added rust protection.
Cover with cloth or paper pads to protect the items from staining other items. |

| Breakables: |
| |
Use dish-pack or glassware-pack box for greater protection.
Wrap each item separately with foam wrap or paper sheets.
Stack dishes on their side and glasses upright.
Place heavier items on the bottom to prevent crushing fragile items.
Fill open spaces in your packing boxes with paper to ensure a tight fit and prevent shifting. |

| Books and Papers: |
| |
Pack heavier items such as books and paper files in smaller boxes. Weight quickly adds up and can make storage units difficult to move. |
| |
| Appliances (Large and Small): |
| |
Clean appliances thoroughly before storing.
Keep refrigerator and freezer doors slightly ajar to prevent mildew.
Tape down all moving parts.
Store light items inside appliances with proper padding. |

| Clothing: |
| |
Wardrobe boxes are best for storing clothing. Shoes and folded items can be placed in the bottom, and use hangers on the bar provided. |
| |
| Mirrors and Pictures: |
| |
Wrap mirrors and pictures with paper and packing a mirror pack box. Do not lay mirror packs flat. |
