Moving - Common Questions

Q: How big are the containers?

The containers measure 5’ x 8 ‘ on the ground and are 7’ tall. (The inside dimensions of the container are 58" x 92" x 77" and designed for easy entry). Each container will typically accommodate an average room to a room and a half of household goods. The containers sit about 4 inches off the ground to ensure that your belongings are safe and dry should the weather choose not to cooperate during the time you are loading.

Q: What are the containers made out of?

Our containers are made exclusively for Door to Stor and each one is made of pressure treated 3/4" plywood to provide a very stable and chemical free environment for which to store and transport your belongings. Each container is also covered with a highly durable, weather-resistant cover.

Q: Are the containers secure while on my property?

Absolutely! Each container door is constructed in such a way, that it will latch tightly closed in three different places. The middle latch has a place for you to put your own lock. No employee will EVER ask for the key or combination to your lock.

Q: Where will you place the containers?

The containers will be placed at your residence in a location that will be easiest for you to load and unload. They can be placed anywhere a car can be parked and of course most anywhere on private property.

Q: How long can I have the containers on my property?

Unlike the pressure of renting a truck and being hit with high daily rental fees, Door to Stor will allow you up to 5 days on each end to load and unload your containers. If your situation requires it, we can also come back as early as the next day to pick up the container(s).

Q: How do I transport a car or boat?

We partner with All Pro Auto Transport to move cars and boats. You can contact them here for more information.

Q: How do I keep items from shifting during transit?

Packing your containers is a simple task! Treat them just like you would a truck, minus the slippery metal ramp to navigate your way up and down. Remember that your containers are only 4" from the ground. Place your heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on the top. Fill in as much empty space as you can and UTILIZE PACKING SUPPLIES! Things like moving blankets and using the appropriate boxes are the single most important factors in a successful move. There are 2 metal "O" rings on each of the 8’ sides of the containers for you to use as tie downs to secure items that may shift otherwise.

Q: Are the items insured while they are in transit?

Yes they are. Included in the quote you receive from you Moving Consultant is valuation that will cover your goods up to $1200 per container. This is free!!! If you belongings require additional valuation, Door to Stor offers a premium valuation option that is very generous and at the same time, affordable. Ask your Moving Consultant for details.

Q: How does payment work?

Simple. Making a reservation is absolutely free. 24 to 48 hours prior to the delivery date of your empty containers, we will collect, via credit card, a deposit for the move. The rest of the move cost will be collected after you have determined the number of containers you have filled and wish to be shipped. If you need additional storage, we can charge you automatically once you reach the destination storage location.

Q: What if I don’t have an address where I am moving?

This is exactly why we are in business. Although your situation may feel unique and is certainly stressful, we deal with customers in your exact situation every single day. If you need us to hold on to your belongings for any length of time, we can do us until you are ready for the final delivery. You can also come to the facility and access your belongings as often as you need at no charge!

Q: How long will my items take to get to my destination?

Transit times will vary according to when and where you are moving. Traditionally Door to Stor has transit times and on time percentages that are up to 4 times that of traditional movers. Specific details about transit times can be obtained from your Moving Consultant.
